Welcome to DiStudios: Red Metal Panic!

Its amazing the myriads of random text that people can type when it comes to meaningless texts or posts, but ask that person to add a “About” site and that person (Me!) seems to lack the words to describe just what it is he is doing…

I am a UK wargames figure collector with around 21 years experience, my first introduction to the hobby was when my mother at the tender age of 7 handed me a box of Warhammer 40,000 Space Marines (Thanks Mom!). I was fascinated by every aspect of hobby from construction, painting and of course gaming. The majority of my collecting and modelling experience stems from Games-Workshop simply because it is the biggest name in Sci-Fi miniatures around and I was employed by the company for 6 years. Having started Warhammer 40,000 at such a young age and by combining work with play, I found myself getting bored with the creative aspects of the hobby and it was at this point in time that I decided to branch out and see what else was around. Like most people Games Workshop was all I knew as it had a store from which to learn from.

I first came into contact with Privateer Press and Warmachine in 2003 at the Salute London Wargames convention, I think it was Privateers Press’ first or second year demo-ing the game at a UK convention and it had a fairly small stand (especially compared to now!) but the first time I saw the game and the associated figures I knew I had found the change I was looking for something very unique in concept, art direction and sculpt, also my painting idol Mike McVey was involved so getting the chance to meet and chat to him was a much added bonus. From that point my painting table started to feature less Space Marines and more Warjacks…

I took a rather long break from wargaming completely in 2005/2006 as changes in my lifestyle meant a great deal of movement, but luckily in 2009 I stumbled on my old Warmachine figures while clearing out my old wargames stuff. It was easy to part with the other models I had but I just coulnd’t bring myself to ebay the Warmachine stuff. Instead I found myself compelled to put down the mouse and keyboard and pick up the paint brush…

The faction I collect has always been Khador hence the blog title “Red Metal Panic”, what better way to sum up 15 tonnes of coal fed, Russian themed, red painted Steam Jacks! I hope to have loads of photographs of my work Old and new featuring here and if time and interest progresses I might throw in random tutorials in perhaps more for my understanding as I experiment with new painitng and model making ideas.

The name DiStudios comes from “Daemon Inks Studios” and was the name I used almost 4-5 years ago when I used to do commission work, even after I stopped the original site the name stuck and is also used for my Anime figure collecting blog DiStudios. If you have a interest in Anime figures then why not have a quick visit?

Thanks for visiting the site and reading, I hope you enjoy what “Red Metal Panic” is all about and please feel free to leave comments/email.

Regards

Chris
